Broken pots: 11 ways to turn them into fantastic garden ornaments
Clay / terracotta pots are the best for containing our plants, including cuttings which we cultivate on our own. In fact, they ensure better transpiration of the soil, preventing the pot from overheating too much in the sun, or from getting too much moisture trapped in them.
However, they are also rather fragile objects, which can break easily - especially when they are old and weathered by time. When this happens, however, it does not mean that you have to throw away all the broken pieces: they can, in fact, be recycled in a creative way, to create original decorations / ornaments for the garden, like the ones you will see below:
If there is only a large piece of left intact, and if its dimensions are large enough, you can lay it on the ground so that the broken part is placed flush with the ground: it will appear as if the pot is half submerged, and you can fill it with whatever flowers you want.
You can also create a composition using two halves, one placed on top of the other.
When they are placed like this on the ground, it is cute to create the illusion that they are pouring out a river of flowers onto the surrounding soil!
Or maybe, instead, pots could be used as the source for a stream of white (or even colored!) pebbles or gravel.
In a corner where there are already other (intact) pots, a broken one can be placed horizontally on the ground, becoming a sort of bowl that will continue to be able to be used to hold plants.
With an amphorae in which one the pot-bellied part is broken, it is cute to create a composition that has the plants coming out of the broken center!
And when left in the middle of a garden, even broken pots that aren't placed in a specific position, can still have their own charm.
Tall pots that have broken along one side can become original planters, where the plants emerge out of the crack.
The most suitable plants to grow in very little soil are succulents, so there are many suggestions for creating cactus-based compositions inside broken pots!
And if you like the idea of hosting fairies in your green corner, terracotta pots can become their home.
A broken pot, placed flat inside another, so that only the intact part shows: here it becomes part of a composition that is almost a living painting!
Have you ever used broken pots in creative ways like these?
