Dirty washing machine drum? Get it back to as good as new condition with these simple tips
Like all household appliances, even the washing machine requires regular maintenance and cleaning in order to function correctly and guarantee us a sparkling wash. In order to avoid the formation of mold, the accumulation of dirt and annoying limescale, we need to deal with this chore from time to time. From the gaskets to the door, from the filter to the drum: each part must be cleaned properly, more or less frequently (depending on the use we make of it).
Fortunately, natural products can come to our aid, which are definitely cheaper than specialized products, but are no less effective. First of all is white vinegar - a formidable ally for household cleaning. This is followed by coarse salt and citric acid. Using these products at least once a month in the right doses and combinations to clean the washing machine, you will see that the drum stay as good as new for ages.
Apple cider vinegar or white wine
Creativo
The main ally for cleaning the washing machine's drum is undoubtedly vinegar and you can use both apple and white wine. So how do you proceed? Once a month, pour a glass into the washing machine's dispenser or directly into the drum and start an empty wash cycle set at 90 °-95 ° degrees C (approx 200 degrees F). Vinegar is excellent for both eliminating any bad smells and for removing limescale.
Rock salt
Do you have rock salt at home? We recommend that you pour one kilo of it into the drum and start an empty wash. If it is necessary to set a high temperature for the vinegar, the same cannot be said for the salt, which does not need it as hot. So keep the temp setting under 90 degrees.
Citric acid
Another ally in cleaning the washing machine is citric acid - which you can buy ready for use in the form of a powder. How do you use it to clean the drum? Start a wash by pouring a mixture of water and citric acid into the softener dispenser compartment. A measuring cup is sufficient. This remedy is also very useful to combat limescale: in this case, do not mix the citric acid with water, but put 2 tablespoons of powder directly into the drum and start a short wash cycle.
Essential oils
When you do the empty wash by pouring vinegar into the detergent drawer, you can also add a few drops of your favorite essential oil to perfume the drum. Lavender, lemon, cinnamon, mint, juniper - you really have a wide choice. So, what are you waiting for? Try out these natural, simple, inexpensive and effective methods right now.
