Dirty window shutters? Try this TikTok method to get them clean again
Window shutters that are exposed to dirt and atmospheric conditions get just as dirty as windows, even if you don't always remember to them as often as you do the windows. After all, the dirt on shutters is not immediately visible like dirt on the glass of windows. Yet, even shutters deserve to be cleaned thoroughly every now and then.
There are various methods to do this, and what we describe below is a very simple process, since it involves the use of materials and tools that we always have at home. Read on to find out more:
To explain the process, we can refer to the TikTok account of @lacasadimattia, where we see Mattia Alessio using broom handles and cloths to make his shutters clean again with a few simple steps, which are within everyone's abilities.
The first step is to remove the dust residue with a broom. But be attentive - if the shutter is tightly closed, the broom or and other tools will not be able to slip between the various slats, so you may prefer to keep it just a little open, so as to be able to reach even the difficult-to-reach gaps much more easily.
Mattia continues by wetting a microfibre cloth with just water, which he passes over the shutters twice. You can always use a broom or floor mop to help you easily reach all areas of the shutter. By doing this, you will have removed all the major deposits of dirt and the most obvious bits of debris.
Now fill a basin with 3 liters of hot water and a few drops of dishwashing liquid. Some Marseille soap will be fine too. Then wash the shutters using another cloth, dipped in soapy water and well wrung out. Also pass this over the shutters a couple of times. Rinse and then wipe the shutters down with a dry cloth (even an old towel) to dry everything immediately and avoid streaking.
Just like with windows, it is good to take care of these cleaning at a time of the day when the shutters are not in direct sunlight, so that the soap does not dry out before it can be rinsed off.
