When we relax in bed in the evening it is always nice to find that the sheets and pillows smell fragrant. This gives us the impression of freshness and cleanliness, and truly aides our relaxation and helps us get a restful sleep.

Sometimes, however, the laundry removed from the drying rack, the dryer or even the closet, are not as fragrant as we would like. Here are some tips to prevent this from happening:

At the time of washing:

  • If you have to wash sheets that have become impregnated with strong and unpleasant odors, add 100 grams of bicarbonate to a basin filled with warm water, let this dissolved and leave the sheets to soak in the mixture for half an hour before washing again them as usual. You can also sprinkle the washing machine drum with the same amount of baking soda before putting the laundry into the washing machine itself.
  • Rinse with vinegar: here too, you need to find the right moment of the wash cycle, which is just before rinsing. At this point, pour 60-100 ml of white vinegar into the detergent dispenser and rinse. Air dry the laundry afterwards.

During drying:

  • Certainly a dryer with fabric softener sheets will help, which you can also DIY yourself: pour a few drops of essential oil of your choice on a piece of white cotton and put it in the machine with the laundry.
  • Air dry the laundry at home or in a airy spot of the balcony or garden where the laundry is not in direct sunlight for too long. Only fold up when perfectly dry, as humidity also causes bad odors.

In wardrobes:

  • Always put freshly washed laundry at the bottom of the pile or at the farthest end of the shelf, so you will give priority to things already washed first.
  • Use methods to absorb moisture (baking soda, dry coffee grounds, dry tea bags) and to deodorize cabinets and drawers - even a bar of soap wrapped in a piece of fabric and placed between the sheets is very useful.

On the bed:

  • When it comes time to put the sheets on the bed, if you feel they need to be deodorized, you can leave them out in the open air (or in the sun for about an hour).
  • Prepare a DIY spray: mix 200 ml of distilled water, 90 ml of pure vodka and 20-30 drops of an essential oil of your choice in a spray bottle and spray on the sheets placed on the bed (do not soak them).

What's your foolproof tip for always having freshly-scented sheets?
