Mosquito nets and screens are a very useful barrier against the entry into the house of not only of mosquitoes, but also of flies, gnats and all those insects that try to sneak into our homes as soon as we start to keep our windows open as the temperature increase in the summer.

This also means, however, that the net surface that only allows air, and nothing else, into the various rooms, remains to any atmospheric conditions or other causes of dirt that usually affects the glass. Between smog, water, insects and more, there is often an clear layer of dirt that accumulates on the netting that is not only annoying to see, but can also be unhealthy. Every time the wind blows on the mosquito nets, it also passes through this dirt accumulation. However, if it is not easy to remove mosquito nets, so how can you clean them? Here are some methods:

With a hairdryer:

This is quick method, for which you will need:

  • A hair dryer (possibly with an extension to be used near the relevant locations)
  • Citric acid
  • A microfiber cloth

How to proceed:

  • In a basin of hot water, put in two or three tablespoons of citric acid and mix it well until the crystals dissolve.
  • Turn on the hairdryer to maximum power and point it at the mosquito net in order to blow awy the dirt and direct it to the outside.
  • Dip the microfibre cloth in the citric acid mixture, wring it out well and wipe it over the mosquito net, rinsing and wringing it out several times.

A less convenient alternative to using a hairdryer can be using compressed air devices that are used to clean PCs or compressed air cans, but this method take more time. As a suggestion, use this method on only the most obstructed areas of the nets.

In addition, lemon juice or white vinegar, diluted in water, can be used instead of citric acid.

Also, when the mosquito net is not too dirty, it can also be sufficient just to pass a vacuum cleaner over the net - perhaps with the brush accessory attached. Otherwise, just pass the dry microfibre cloth over the mesh. In difficult-to-reach places you can use adhesive tape, such as painters' paper or even double-sided adhesive tape to remove dust and dirt.
