An old bike in the garden: 12 creative ideas to inspire you to decorate with style

As a means of transport, the bicycle has a timeless charm, and in certain cities and areas of the world it is truly indispensable for optimizing the quality of living spaces we humans occupy (Holland, for example). But even the most beloved bicycle, sooner or later, becomes too old and worn out to be repaired (economically): so some bikes are scrapped and remain forgotten or lay around rusting away, and unused somewhere.

However, many of these abandoned bikes have been brought back to life by those who have found a way to use them as objects to decorate a garden with! The web abounds with ideas from which to get inspiration on how to recycle old bikes and make planters out of them to be deployed among our flower beds. Not to mention the many possibilities of using their wheels and rims for similar purposes! Check out some of these brilliant recycling ideas below:

The most popular idea - but not a reason to bypass this, then - is to place the bike against some tree or street lamp post and decorate it with flowers. It can even be parked in the middle of a flower bed!

You could combine the concept of a planter with that of a wall art installation - mounted on some boundary wall or a garden fence.

And it can be attractive if this outdoor "wall art" is combined with the vegetation growing on the wall itself.

When we are tlking about using bike parts in the garden, then we are definitely referring to the wheel rims: you can find a thousand creative uses for these, such as the archway in this example!

Very often they are used to create frameworks (trellises) on which to grow climbing plants.

And the various configurations of these supports are very useful in a garden.

Given their circular shape, old bicycle wheels are also perfect as a support to decorate a wreath to hang on a wall - and doing this with succulents is a truly original touch.

If you like the aesthetic look (and sounds) of wind chimes - which show themselves off with every gust of wind - you can use the rim of a bike as a frame from which to hang the chimes, and perhaps recycle other discarded items as its pendants (old keys, for example).

And why not use a similar concept, but over the top of an outdoor table and with flowers instead of chimes? It will be perfect for an important occasion.

A wheel rim, a few glass jars as candle holders and there you have a charming DIY outdoor chandelier.

If it is an old-fashioned push bike with captivating lines, you can paint it in the same color as the structure of an iron gate. Then you can put it into the frame of the gate as an integral and decorative component.

Unmodified rims, on the other hand, can create an amazing fence.

Have you ever recycled an old bike to decorate your garden?
