Kids' playroom in chaos? Tidy up using TikTok tips

Any house where there are children tends to be littered with toys everywhere. If you're lucky, though, and there's a space to have a playroom, most of the mess ends up in there. It can also be a part of the bedroom where the children sleep, or a corner of some other room. In any case, with the energy of the little ones, it is easy for the toys to be found strewn all over the house.

It is not uncommon to enter a playroom and not know where to start to bring clean up to the pile of toys and other objects scattered all over the place. Disorder of this type is not only annoying for adults to manage, but also counterproductive for the little ones who find themselves swamped with toys that they may not even be playing with.

When you don't know where to put discarded toys, try the method described on the @tidycademypro account on TikTok.

The first step is to have lots of baskets to hand: not only those that will go back into furniture units, but also every sort of tray, basket, box of anything similar you have at hand. You will never have enough boxes or baskets.

  • Begin by gathering up everything you see on the floor into one, big pile.
  • Divide the various objects into categories: at this point this is  only for you to understand how to proceed with the cleaning. They do not necessarily have to be thought of in terms of how the children will use them.
  • Also, at this stage, make a selection of the objects that seem to broken and are irreparable and should be thrown away or given to charity.
  • Also have a basket for everything you do not know how to catagorize.
  • Exit the playroom and also collect up all the toys that are laying around in the rest of the house, and then put them in the baskets you are filling up in the playroom.
  • When you have a lot of baskets full of different objects, place them all along one wall of the room, in a neat row.
  • Once the floor is cleared in this way, move on to emptying the drawers of the furniture: probably even these will not be properly organized. When emptying them, continue to use the baskets lined up against the wall to divide everything into their relevant categories.
  • When you have cleared the furniture, start sorting out the toys by type (into a another set of empty boxes). Plush toys on one side, toy cars on the other, and animal figures, action figures, LEGO etc.

At this point you will have brought order to the home and made it easier for you and the children to find what they are looking for next time they play. It could also be useful, however, to provide a very large collection basket in which to put the games away every day, after they have finished using them. In this way, when the time for the weekly cleaning comes, you just have to empty one basket / box to start the cleaning process. And you could also do this with the help of the little ones, like a reward game!
