Create beautiful DIY planters for growing strawberries in small spaces!

Strawberries are among the most delicious fruits we can eat in spring, and they are also quite easy plants to grow. This is why many want to create their own supply of fresh strawberries ready to be enjoyed. Often, however, we are dissuaded from doing this because we know we do not have a garden with enough space to create even just a row of these plants.

Yet these plants, as well as others that are grown in the vegetable patch, are also suitable for growing in more compact pots and planters. Even those that grow quite tall are also often perfect for balconies or terraces. There are many DIY projects to build these compact structures using pots, wooden planks, or even recycling old plastic or metal containers. Take a look at the ideas proposed below:

You can create a planter tower with 3 different sized pots. just like you do with flowering plants, in fact, you can create a column of plants. The largest pot is put at the bottom and the smallest at the top. In each one, a lining of stones (or expanded clay) and earth is laid down, and then all the remaining space is filled with soil - where you will finally plant your strawberries. They will be beautiful throughout the period of their growth, flowering and fruit production!

A solution that acknowledges gardens of the past, is the one that uses terracotta pots with many openings on their sides: these amphorae are now classic models, which are usually used for flowering plants but also work great for strawberries. Depending on the tutorials, there are instructions for placing a perforated tube inside the amphora that will transport water more securely and more evenly to the plants growing on the sides of the jar. In any case, a base of stones or expanded clay for proper draining must always be provided.

Do you want hanging planters for your strawberries? You can use baskets or even recycled tin cans.

When you enter the world of making wood-based projects, you have a myriad of possibilities and models to choose from: for example, you could create a sort of raised, multi-storey flowerbed by stacking low and wide wooden boxes, getting smaller and smaller as you move up the stack.

Alternatively, you could make it more convenient to harvest strawberries by placing them in a three-tiered planter that is shaped like a ladder. These are projects that are also suitable for regular flowers or herbs.

Then there are some truly innovative and super space-saving solutions: those that contructed completely vertically. These are real compact columns. They can be built by joining together four pre-drilled boards, or even by recycling old fence posts.

Another option for creating vertical strawberry planters, mounted on a pole (or as panels to hang on the wall, if desired), is with recycled, perforated plastic buckets.

Would you like to grow strawberries in this way?
