This artist transforms scrap wood into splendid furnishing accessories
Giving new life to discarded objects is the focus of many creative projects, and among the materials that are certainly the most often used in this way, are bits of wood. Generally, however, it is wood left over from some other project or a part of a piece of furniture that is now ready for the trash.
What about considering using the scrap pieces of wood that remain as leftovers from the cutting up of the timber, for example? The parts may be gnarled, flawed, or the wooden discs that were cut from a trunk have large holes or knots in their centers: these flaws often mean that these bits of wood end up becoming firewood ... Or it can happen that someone, like the Filipino artist we will talk about below, uses them to create very beautiful, decorative pieces of art which are always unique.
On the internet, this artist's name is Angel Harmony, and you can see her works displayed on Instagram, Facebook and on her online shop. Her pieces of wood were given to her by her father, as a challenge to see what she could get out of of them. She, being artistic and knowing some of the rudiments of carpentry, used carpentry (and even electrical engineering) in order to create the objects that sprang from her imagination.
Her works are always sealed with wood oils and decorated with paints specifically made for wood.
In this way, Angel has created unique table lamps, with large bulbs, which have become very fashionable in recent years. She also shows some design sketches created for many of her projects.
From another piece of wood she created a brush holder - which can also be used as a decorative pen holder for a large and imposing desk.
Furthermore, a piece of a trunk full of cracks and holes, has been treated and painted in such a way as to highlight its roughness and irregularities. And so, it became a charming planter to decorate a coffee table or any other shelf in the house.
Angel Harmony gives her pieces names inspired by the images and shapes they evoke in her eyes.
There are also mini stools that could work perfectly as a vases, stands for presenting sweets and cakes or even as bases for displaying beautiful table centerpieces.
Working with scrap wood can really give you a lot of satisfaction, and it could be a constructive way to pass the time and to relax: study the piece in front of you and imagine how many ways you could transform it - and then see how the project takes shape thanks to your efforts. This is an activity that can give one great satisfaction and can be almost therapeutic!
