Towels hard and rough after washing them? You can fix this with a brush or using some other tips
It is always a pleasure to wrap ourselves in a soft towel or bathrobe as soon as we get out of the shower, or to dry our face and hands on a soft face cloth every time we need one in the bathroom. But sometimes when we go to pick up these items, we realize that they are a bit too stiff and hard, and in contact with the skin they are abrasive and rough.
Sometime it happens that, even after a regular washing cycle, and despite the use of appropriate detergents and softeners, the pile of our towels is a lot less softer than we would like. A number of methods can be employed to avoid this, and there is even a popular remedy suggested by on the web which involves the use of a brush!

- The brush method: this is a bit unusual, and above all, is not very practical in terms of time spent. But it could come in handy after yet another laundry has come out poorly and when there is no time for another wash before welcoming guests. You need a hairbrush that has bristles that are not too hard, and the bristles should have rounded tips so they do not to get caught in the pile. Round hair brushes or even brushes with natural bristles are also good for this task. Place the towel flat on a bed (or even on an appropriately sized table or ironing board) and pass the brush over it with regular and long stokes, always moving in the same direction on one side of the towel. Flip it over to the other side and do the same,
- Distilled white vinegar: this is a preventive method, the one to use at the time of washing. Add 230 ml of vinegar to the washing machine's drum and start the wash as usual. If you want to soften clean towels, you can also try washing using them using only the vinegar, possibly doing a second rinse to avoid residue vinegar smells (which will, in any event, disappears within a few hours when air-dried).
- Baking soda: you can add 150 grams to the detergent dispensing tray together with the detergent before starting the washing machine's cycle.
- Air dry: do not place the towels in direct sunlight, but choose bright spots and where there may be even a little bit of a breeze. This is particularly effective when the wash was done using the vinegar method, described above.
- There are also those who use the same method on towels that is used for duvets: add tennis balls or those special balls that are used in the dryer during the washing / tumbling cycle.
In any case, remember that increasing the amount of softener is counterproductive, since more soap will accumulate between the fibers of the item. This excess will not be rinsed off properly and therefore will end up "starching" and stiffening the garment rather than softening it.
