The Japanese pathways are stones arranged at regular intervals that allow you to cross areas of a garden or courtyard without stepping on the ground: they indicate the spots on which to place your feet, circumscribing paths that, in fact, contribute to decor of the landscape in a very elegant and sophisticated way.

They can therefore be used instead of traditional paths, and above all, they become very useful for those who do not want a lawn to be ruined by foot traffic. Further, they can really help a lot in the management of flower beds. In fact, if you put these stepping stones close enough to each other so as to be able to allow movement easily around a flower bed without the risk of stepping on the plants, you can dedicate yourself to pruning and cleaning the bed much more effectively.

Not just stone slabs or wooden planks can be used for these pathways: Japanese steps can also be made by hand, and using concrete. Check out the ideas below:

A little bit of concrete in a round mold (pots are fine too) and before it hardens completely you leave someone's footprints, with a name and date. Immortalized forever.

A personalized Walkway of Fame, with handprints and a few pieces of colored glass to decorate each step.

Fantastic mosaics can be created using concrete and fragments of broken floor tiles.

And shattered / broken ceramic or porcelain tea sets can also be used!

In addition to the more classic round shape, concrete can be used to sculpt the shapes of leaves, using real ones to imprint the vein structures.

And you can really use any leaf to decorate the concrete stepping stones.

They will look almost like fossils, beautiful to be seen placed in gravel or in the middle of the lawn.

You can also use the texture of a leaf to decorate the regular shape of a round or square stepping stone.

And in a similar way, you can take advantage of the textured surface of a rug (or any other object) whose patterns you would like to replicate.

A very nice idea for transforming the stepping stones into big buttons.

And why not take stone slabs and paint them so that they look like slices of fruit?

With the help of a little fluorescent paint, you can also make your Japanese stepping stones glow in the dark.
