Recycle old furniture by turning old pieces into something completely different
The passage of time leaves a mark on everything. And this is also true for old furniture that has served us for years and has become a little worn out. Or perhaps, with the passing of time, they have become dated, out of fashion and no longer match the surrounding decor.
In addition to giving them a coat of paint and renewing their look by adding some features, when a unit is replaced with a more modern one or thrown out because the entire arrangement of the furniture in a room has changed, what else can be done? Tables, chairs, chests of drawers and more can get a new lease on life if transformed into something else, and reinserted into the room as the new piece. Get inspiration from the ideas below:
Do you have lots of old and worn out, small tables on your hands? If they can no longer be used as is, perhaps they can become unique shelves to dress a wall. Just cut them in half and put them up against the wall: even if they have slightly different patterns, using the same paint as is predominant in the room on all of them, will restore uniformity.
From a single table which is still in good condition, you can create two narrower side tables (console tables) for corridors and living rooms.
Even chairs can be recycled in several ways: both the backrests and the seats, in fact, can become useful shelves and wall-mounted storage units. They can be used in the bathroom (to hang towels), kitchen, place pot plants on, or hold various utensils and jars ...
... and it is always surprising to see them creating the illusion of emerging from a wall.
If, on the other hand, what we have on our hands from some DIY project is the side of an armchair or a bench, you could mount it on the wall and equip it with hooks to use it as coat rack.
Taking advantage of the frames of a set of identical chairs, you could also stack them and assemble them together to create a very unique bookcase.
Here's another category of very useful items to recycle: old drawers. When you throw away a worn out piece of furniture, or transform it by taking out the drawers, don't get rid of them. They can become object holders or mini wall shelves (great for making spice racks, for example).
Shallow and wide drawers, placed vertically, are like picture frames! If you paint the inner bottom with a chalkboard effect paint you will get a useful surface to jot down your shopping list - just like being in school!
A drawer resting on the legs of a table, and perhaps surmounted by a support surface, is an excellent coffee table or rustic bedside table.
The smaller ones, with or without feet attached, can become trays to service tables or even to hold pot plants.
Even an old wall clock can be revived and can become the top of a unique coffee table.
