Have you ever tried the lid tip to clean carpets and sofas faster?
Cleaning rugs, carpets, sofas and upholstery is usually one of the most annoying chores we have to do at home. If we are lucky, and we can take out the padding of armchairs and sofas, the chore becomes somewhat more manageable. But in cases where this is not possible - as well as when washing rugs or carpets - we have to deal with a series of restrictions that make everything much more difficult, tiring and time-consuming.
So, it is always useful to discover some tips that are effective and that can save us time and effort. When it come to cleaning these objects, there is a tip that has become very popular online, which consists in using the lid of a pot or pan.

There are several accounts on TikTok that show how this tip works, such as that of user @home_motivationn.
All you need is:
- A lid from some pan or saucepan, which is as flat as possible and with a handle that is easy to grasp.
- A microfiber cloth large enough to cover the diameter of the lid.
- Soap and water suitable for the type of fabric or material you want to wash. An alternative version, shown in the video by @home_motivationn, uses a dishwasher tablet, dissolved in water.
The procedure is very simple:
- Prepare the soap and water mixture. The water should preferably be warm or lukewarm. You can use castile soap or even some DIY remedy suitable for the type of material you need to clean. Also remember that the percentage of soap in the water must be low, because otherwise you will create a product that is almost impossible to rinse off completely. You can also add some baking soda. If you use dishwasher tablets, and depending on how large the surface to be cleaned is, adjust how much water you use. Also, you may need to use only half or a third of the tablet. Remember that these tablets really only melt at very high temperatures, so first prepare the solution using boiling water, dissolve the tablet into the water and then when everything is a little cooler, you can use it without running the risk of burning yourself.
- Dip a cloth in the soap and water solution, then squeeze it out very well so that it is not soaked: it must not drip liquid in any way. There are those who leave the cloth to soak for a very long time in the water before wringing it out.
- Stretch the cloth so as to cover the entire lid and secure the overlapping flaps with a knot, or hold them down with your hand while grasping the lid's handle: the cloth, in essence, must remain firmly over the lid.
- Use the lid to rub the cloth over the entire surface: you will cover more area and will be able to apply more pressure easily and evenly.
