How many ways can you recycle an old door with flair?
When a door, especially a wooden one, becomes too old and worn by the weather to continue to do its job, and restoring it would essentially mean replacing so many parts that it's not even worth it, we are faced with a choice: between getting rid of it like any old piece of wood or recycling it using a brilliant idea.
Doors, in fact, can give life to a host of DIY furniture projects with an irresistible rustic flavor: they can become mirrors, shelves, tables, bookcases, and more. Here are some ideas to inspire you to recycle an old door creatively:
Placed horizontally and equipped with hooks (even knobs will do) on the underside and then each square of the inner frame filled with photos: it is beautiful at the entrance of the house serving as a unique coat rack.
Another popular idea for a recycled door serving as a coat rack, is to make it a sort of very high back rest for a chest to be placed at the entrance. It's reminiscent of medieval chairs!
There is no shortage of ideas on how to transform an old door into a rustic-style headboard.
Doors are generally arranged horizontally, but some larger ones can also end up covering a large part of the wall behind the bed if placed vertically.
Instead of transparent glass, use reflective glass: a French window becomes a unique mirror to be used in the bedroom as a long mirror, reaching down to the floor.
It almost seems that these mirrors are hiding an entrance to another dimension!
And the idea of the mirror-door also works when they are used as sliding doors for a wardrobe. This design is commonly known as the so-called "barn doors".
Here, the door becomes the back panel on which to fit all the shelves to create a DIY bookcase.
Or, in the case of doors that have more panels, you can add the shelves to the back!
A large door can also become the sturdy top for an outdoor table, with the base in metal, wood or any other material you like!
An idea similar to the chest-door combo to be placed at the entrance: instead of a seat, create a small table; and on the door itself, place a few small shelves. Here, from a simple door, a work table for gardening is born.
And why not an alternative flower planter?
