A TikTok video demonstrates tips on how to put fragile glasses in the dishwasher safely
Not everyone has the courage to put precious wine glasses in the dishwasher: when it comes to delicate and valuable pieces of crystal, in fact, we prefer to clean them by hand, dry them immediately and put them away immediately in a cabinet where we keep them safe from any risk of being broken. They are certainly the most fragile of dishes and no one wants to be unpleasantly surprised to find them shattered and broken when the dishwasher door is opened at the end of a wash cycle.
However, there is a method to place them in the dishwasher, minimizing the risk of a mishap like this: just use the accessory that all modern dishwashers usually have.
When you load the top shelf of the appliance with the glasses, you tend to simply position them with a keyhole down, stopped by some metal pin that protrudes vertically, with the bottom upwards.
Doing this with wine glasses, which have long and thin stems, usually means having the bottom of the glass touching the roof of the dishwasher. Furthermore, that is a position in which the glass is more subject to vibrate and move, perhaps colliding with other objects arranged around it. If those are heavier (perhaps ceramic mugs or thick glass glasses), they can damage the goblet itself.
A TikTok video shows a simple tip that maybe not everyone is aware of: indeed, more than a tip, it is the most useful method for taking advantage of an accessory that we usually find on the top rack of dishwashers. It is a small folding shelf which is usually found on the side, and which has a series of "slots" in which one can rest the stems of glasses. In this way, the glasses are placed at an angle and without being balanced in a precarious manner. Using this accessory, the glasses are much less likely to move during washing cycle.
While we're at it, it's worth remembering another tip that comes in handy with the dishwasher: sometimes, when you open the door at the end of the wash cycle, you will notice that the dishes are still damp. To solve this, it's just a matter of putting any clean towel (or even a dishcloth) inside of the door, placing it so that a small flap comes hangs over the outside, and most of the fabric lays on the inside of the door. Then close the door for a while. In this way, all the hot steam that is generated at the end of the wash will not remain trapped but will be absorbed by the fabric!
