Don't know what to do with old or mismatched socks? Recycle them in funny and useful ways!
Socks are among the garments we use most often, and to the point of wearing them out and having to throw them away: worn often and washed frequently, they wear out quickly and when they are worn out or get a hole in them, they usually end up in the garbage. Also sometimes, the pairs of socks we wear most often become useless because one of a pair suddenly disappears - and who knows if it's really the washing machine's fault.
So what can we do with old or unmatched socks? Depending on the material and the condition in which they are, they can be transformed into many other useful or even simply fun, recycled objects. Check out the ideas below:
You can cut up and make many strips of material from socks, especially the terrycloth ones that are used for sports, and then you can weave them together to make useful objects such as pot holders or trivets (pot rests).
They can even be woven together to create those toys that dogs love to chew so much!
The cutest and most colorful socks are perfect to sew together to create a cute stuffed snake, which will also work as an unique draft excluder in the home.
A mismatched sock - perhaps one with a more refined style and still in good condition, can become a small storage pocket: you could use it for keys and a cell phone to keep safe and protected in your bag.
You can even transform a sock into a unique purse, with the opening being an old-fashioned snapper type.
Soft and furry socks, like the ones that keep feet warm on cold winter days, are ideal to transform into a nice plush seal. And with just a little sewing, this is within the reach of even beginners.
And a DIY project to turn a sock into a kitten is simple too!
A stick, a little stuffing and a few more details can make a big old sock into the head of a toy horse: a fun idea for imaginative games or to complete a carnival costume!
Have you ever imagined that a sock can become a little fish?
And why not use socks as useful accessories? In winter, when there is a risk that the rubber of the car windshield wipers will freeze to the windshield, lift them up and protect them with old socks.
