Vacuum packing the duvet? Discover this TikTok tip to do it even during an emergency
Storing duvets, but also bulky blankets and padded garments (like winter jackets) requires one of two alternative solutions: plenty of space available in the closets or an effective vacuum system to rely on.
Nowadays, using a vacuum is the most common solution, because by putting these bulky items inside the special bags and extracting all the air, you get really flat packages that take up very little space in the cupboards and also ensure that you avoid dust and mold penetrating them, creating damage. But what can we do if, for example, one of the vacuum bags bursts or you find yourself having to do this chore but without having the right bags at that moment? A very simple emergency solution can be used - read on to discover this solution:

As is explained in a popular TikTok video on the @estela_tips account, it can happen to anyone to find that a vacuumed bag suddenly expands and "explodes" in the wardrobe, because the bag somehow gets damaged or punctured.
To remedy this problem, all you need is:
- A sturdy garbage bag, that is, the very thick and resistant black bags types (usually those used for the garden)
- A cord or elastic band with which to firmly close the bag
- A vacuum cleaner, which has a nozzle that can be easily inserted into the plastic bag at the right position
The method is easy and intuitive:
- Carefully fold the duvet or jacket, so as to try to compress it as much as possible.
- Put it in the bag so as to leave the opening free: in fact you will need to have plastic flaps long enough at the opening to be able to insert the vacuum cleaner.
- Hold the top of the bag closed with one hand, so that you have it bunched up in your fist, like a "tuft" of plastic.
- Insert the nozzle of the vacuum cleaner into the open end of the bag, trying not to let the duvet expand inside and turn on the appliance
- When you have sucked out all the air you can, quickly close the bag with a piece of cord and / or tape, so that it remains flat and compact. You certainly do not want this bag to also "explode" in the closet!
It is a really simple and convenient tip, but there is no guarantee that these "do-it-yourself" vacuum bags will keep as long and without incident as the ones specially designed by the manufacturers. Therefore it is always advisable to replace these as soon as possible with the proper ones.
