Do you need a shoe rack? You can make it by recycling pallets

Walking into a room and finding the floor littered with pairs of shoes is never a pleasant experience, and when it comes time to clean the mess on the floor it becomes even more annoying. In addition, shoes that remain piled up for weeks or months around the room or in a corner will get covered with dust and, if we have pets, we will also find a lot of hair.

Having shoe racks in various parts of the house where this type of chaos tends to happen, is always useful - especially in the bedrooms or perhaps at the entrance to the house. And to have shoe racks that are of the right size and that hold as many pairs as possible in the available space, is ideal. And to achieve this, it is useful to recycle wooden pallets into custom shoe racks, as in the examples we detail below:

Sometimes it is really just enough to take pallets that are in good condition and fix them to a wall, putting the pairs of shoes in the parts that usually serve as the feet of the pallet itself.

If, on the other hand, the space available on the wall is restricted, it may be preferable to create several shelves that are more compact and with a slightly more refined shape.

And of course, they can always be painted in colors that integrate better with the home's decor.

With white, you can never go wrong. Painted white, then, even a shoe rack made with pallets, and with a slightly rustic look, becomes a little more refined. And it might be nice to put plants on the top shelf.

Parts of the pallets can also be used. For example, using only the shims (i.e. those cubes of plywood and chipboard that are used as seperators on the pallet and are often discarded). In fact, shims can serve as separators between several wooden boards, and will create enough space to put shoes in if they are not too high!

Whenever you create furniture by recycling the wood of the pallets, you have to make sure to sand it carefully so as not to risk getting injured by splinters of wood when using them, as pallets are generally made from unfinished wood.

From pallets, very sturdy and large shoe racks can be created, and which can be enhanced perhaps by adding a couple of drawers.

With DIY projects, you can customize all the dimensions of the shoe rack, and so you avoid unnecessary clutter and wasting space.

The top surfaces of pallets can also be used to create a shoe rack that acts as a seat at the same time - like those that come in very useful at the foot of a bed.

And if you'd like to create some sort of rack to hang all your rain boots or work boots from just outside the entrance to your home, (to keep mud and oil out, for example), a pallet could be the answer!
