Gardens are areas that deserve to be decorated and designed according to a balanced plan, and one that knows how to enhance the space available. Thus, when designing the various corners of the garden, the use to which they are intended and the appearance they will have over time need to be taken into account. And we can achieve this using plants, paving, flower beds and various other elements in order to create environments that are beautiful to look at and pleasant to live in all through the year.

Sometimes it is the finishing touches that give the spark that was missing: borders and flower beds, for example, help to better define the spaces and add beautiful and, perhaps even unexpected, details. To do this, you can use all kinds of rocks, pebbles, gravel and stones - depending on the overall conditions - as you can see in the ideas described below:

If there are flower beds in the garden - especially the narrow and long ones that line the fences or garden paths - you can make them appear more manicured and unique from the norm. Larger rocks can be used instead of prefabricated edges and then pebbles on the ground in the strip that runs along the edge can be put down.

Another idea to consider for flower beds that are a little higher than the surrounding area, is to create a small concrete embankment decorated with stones (the round, white stones are very popular).

Laying down a bed of river rocks in the areas bordering the walls of the house - especially where the off-run of the gutters is - is useful to avoid flooding and to avoid installing grates and manholes that will need to be inspected periodically.

These areas can be decorated not only with earth and plants, but a bed of stones can also be added, even shaped to form a sort of stream of stones.

If the flower bed where the water from the gutters ends is lower than the level of the house, then the rocks can be stacked together, and water-loving species such as ferns can be planted between the niches.

It is also nice to use stones of different shapes and colors to mark out the contours of flower beds of all kinds in the garden.

And if stones are used inside a wire mesh, creative raised flower beds can also be constructed.

If the idea of regular maintenance doesn't scare you (weeds must be kept at bay), using stones around the slabs that form the walkways around the house is a very elegant solution.

What about creating a stream bed using river rocks and stream bed gravel / pebbles?

The idea of creating a rock garden inside a large, wide pot is also original!

And if there are children in the home, the stones can be painted in a riot of color to form a fun rainbow river!
