For a general cleaning of the various surfaces you can use white vinegar, but always remember to dilute it: on marble, wood and terracotta, or other types of natural stone it could be too aggressive. You will only need:
- a bucket of hot water
- half a liter of white vinegar
- a few drops of dish washing soap or Marseille soap (very little is needed)
Use a broom with a rag to pass the solution all over the floor, after obviously having swept it well. first
- If there are stubborn stains: try using hydrogen peroxide on them, before switching to vinegar using an old rag.
- On wrought iron railings: fill a basin with hot water and pour a drop of dish soap into it. You just need a cloth to rub the various stains and scuffs with this mixture. However, if there are more complex, ridged surfaces, use a nylon brush or an old toothbrush to get into all the nooks and crannies. Rinse off with plain water.
- If you notice some rust, then use equal parts water and vinegar on these stubborn stains.
- For marble surfaces: use a basin of hot water in which you pour three tablespoons of Marseille soap and another three of baking soda. Mix well and then use cloths to scrub balustrades, window sills and thresholds.
- Be careful when using the most aggressive remedies such as lemon juice, citric acid, vinegar or bleach: they work well, but they do corrode the stone and make it more porous, and eventually these surfaces will get dirty much faster in the future.
- For rust stains: You can try DIY remedies that are popular online like rubbing toothpaste onto them if the stain is small. Otherwise, lemon juice or white vinegar can help. There are those who, in the most serious cases, also resort to kerosene, letting it act 10 minutes and then dab it off with an old rag.
