Pillowcases too big for the pillow? Use this tip that is all the rage on TikTok to fix it

Sometimes it happens that we buy a complete bed linen set that we really like but whose dimensions are not exactly perfect for our mattress or for the pillows. It may happen, in fact, that we have to tuck the extra fabric under the mattress so that it will not produce a bunch of annoying creases, or we find that when we change pillows, the pillowcases are too wide or too long.

When a long piece of fabric remains dangling free on the side of the pillow, the bed will fail to look as tidy as we would like it. This is a small inconvenience, of course, but since fixing this flaw really only takes a very quick action, it's worth doing as soon as we slip the pillows into their pillow cases.

This trick is very simple, but if you've never seen it in real life, you can take a look at the video posted to TikTok by user @tidycademypro which shows just how quick and simple this little trick is

  1. Insert the pillow all the way into the pillow slip, leaving the entire extra piece of the pillowcase dangling on the one side only.
  2. Pinch the pillowcase to lift it at the point where the pillow ends (on the free end, obviously), take the excess fabric and tuck it into the pillowcase itself, on top of the pillow. Try to smooth out the fabric you are folding back on itself, spreading it out as smoothly as possible.
  3. Tuck it up tightly, then take the "new" corners of the pillowcase and pull them firmly to either side so as to make any creases and bumps disappear.

In seconds, you will have adjusted any large pillowcases to the actual pillow size without stress, and the bed will truly appear (and feel) tidier.

When it comes to changing the sheets, you may also want to remember to put 4 or 5 drops of an essential oil, such as lavender, on them which promotes relaxation and facilitates a deep, restful sleep.

And since we are talking about pillowcases, it is also worth remembering another well-known grandmother's tip that always comes in handy: when we have to put our bed linen sets in a wardrobe after washing and ironing them, to avoid creating a huge pile with multiple layers which is difficult to manage and work with, you can put each piece of a set inside one of its pillowcases, which will then serve as a sort of sack or linen bag. In this way, you will immediately recognize the complete bed linen set you want and, as a bonus, the whole wardrobe will be more tidy and easier to work with.
