Does your home seem a bit dull or neglected? You can remedy this with some forethought

Not all homes are always in perfect condition and ready to welcome guests or be prepared and neat in every corner of it. Everyday life can make it difficult to keep the house immaculate and maybe, when the time comes to tidy up, it doesn't occur to us to pay attention to a series of details that can cause the house to look a little neglected.

Some objects that we use and see every day, (i.e. those that are not cleaned or tidied up every time the house is tidied up while doing the usual chores), can spoil our overall cleaning efforts and can sometimes be noticed by any guests. Find out what some of these objects are by reading on below:

Enamelled, steel tableware are the subject of a current "revival" in the world of interior design, given the retro or rustic look they have. However, when the signs of aging begin to show a little too much on them and the enamel coating becomes chipped and reveals black spots, it is advisable not to leave these objects to be too visible (or perhaps to use them for some other, less visible, creative purpose).

The same goes for chipped or slightly cracked ceramic cups, bowls and plates: let's keep these aside or recycle them in a creative way.

Small bits of soap remains are difficult to use properly and don't make a great impression. However, since waste is not to be encouraged, as soon as you notice that the bar of soap is reaching the end of it's useful life, replace it with a new one and keep the soap scraps for later use. There are many ways to recycle soap pieces and this includes creating more soap.

The more people that live in the house, the more the entrance and exit areas to the home will be packed with coats and jackets: in addition to being a space prone to cluttering, it makes it difficult for guests to hang up their own coats. It is better to try to leave fewer coats lying around and try to leave (at least some) of coat hangers free.

In any room, seeing multiple pairs of shoes scattered all over the floor always creates a great impression of disorder - but as long as it is out of sight to others, perhaps we don't need to trouble ourselves with this issue. At the entrance or in the passageways, however, it is always good to use shoe racks, particularly those created with space-saving DIY designs and solutions.

If you have very large mirrors - which are always decorative and super-effective in making rooms seem brighter and more spacious - be sure to always keep them clean. These large, reflective glass surfaces, just like windows, always give an impression of neglect when they are dulled by dust, grime and stains.

The same applies in the bathrooms, where humidity and splashes of soap or toothpaste constantly dirty the surface of the mirrors.

Blankets and throws are essential comfort items, but instead of leaving them draped randomly here and there, try to fold them up or maybe put them in some large basket when you don't actually need them.

Those comfortable but worn-out slippers laying around do not help us much in negating an aura of neglect in our homes. So, before guests arrive, it is better to put them in the room out of sight. And if you have the habit of having guests take off their shoes before coming into your home, make sure that any slippers you intend to give them are always in excellent condition and thoroughly clean.

These are small things your can do, but they can go a long way in making your home seem tidy and well-kept.
