Easter eggs decorated for your home: Did you know you can make beautiful ones using crochet?
One of the most universally recognized symbols of Easter are the iconic Easter eggs: there are those that are made of chocolate for eating; there are those that decorate traditional Easter dishes; and there are also those that are painted or decorated in various ways, to then be used in Easter displays (like wreaths) or for the kids to find hidden around the house or in the garden.
In the case of those used to decorate with or for egg-hunting, you can busy yourself using many different artistic techniques to create these items. In fact, you can paint up real eggs if you wish, but you can also decorate eggs made from polystyrene (also known as styrofoam). Alternatively, you can create padded eggs and covered ones using a jacket made with crochet. This option will allow you to create Easter decorations that do not easily get damaged and that can be customized in many different ways. Check out the ideas below - perhaps you could use them for your Easter eggs!

To cover egg-shaped models made from polystyrene, you will need to work on each of the two halves of each egg's cover seperately. Once done, these two halves can be sewn together over the model. Each of these is made using 7 worked rows, and you can use all the colors of wool or yarn you want!
These eggs are stuffed, as in the amigurumi style (amigurumi is the Japanese art of knitting or crocheting small, stuffed yarn creatures), so they can be created without a visible seam. The result is a continuous and very beautiful texture, with raised ridges. Using neutral (or pastel) colors, the eggs will be perfect for incorporation into rustic-style decorations.
These eggs are also beautiful when the are created by knitting them using more brightly colored yarns, and even if you do not use specific stitches that are used when doing amigurumi.
And why not combine the decorative motif of the eggs with that of farmyard animals often seen in Easter ornaments? In this example, crochet eggs can also be made to look like bunnies, hens or sheep (lambs)!
It's always hard to resist the colors of unicorns, with their rainbow manes. And they can also be shaped like eggs!
Crochet eggs that look like fruit, vegetables and various multicolored animals, are really very nice and fun to make or maybe to give as a gift to someone.
On any solid shape you can add some stylized flowers with a couple of well-placed stitches.
Decorations with floral motifs are truly enchanting, and you can combine the colors to create the contrasts you most prefer.
Happy Easter!
