Empty, boring corridors? Try these furnishing solutions to enhance the passages
In any home, the corridor is always a passing-thru / transit point, a necessary and functional element used to reach the other parts of the house - those that are really lived in by its inhabitants. In short, corridors are transitional spaces.
But even these spaces contribute to the aesthetics of the homes and therefore deserve to be furnished with the right attention: they are indeed spaces where some accessories can finally find a place that perhaps we could not deploy elsewhere - such as certain frames or chandeliers that in other rooms would never have been used. Get some inspiration with the ideas listed below:
Corridors are often narrow, long spaces with no direct natural light. In these cases, it is necessary to avoid - almost always - any dark colors and use white for the walls and ceiling. The floor will probably be an extension of that of some of the communicating rooms, giving a feeling of continuity and integration.
Decorations will enliven this space: everything that will furnish a white and simple corridor will define its character and bring color and life. And a long rug or carpet helps to emphasize the environment.
The very shape of a corridor is such that it automatically directs the eye towards the end. So the wall, door or space at the end of the corridor will have to deserve have special attention. It can be painted or covered with materials to create a pleasant contrast.
If you still want to put dark colors on the walls, do it only on a portion. If the corridor is high, you can also choose the top, leaving the bottom white. Otherwise, consider the opposite combination. The ceiling, however, must remain clear and bright.
Do not forget the chandeliers or lighting: not only will lights have to completely illuminate a space that would be gloomy in its own right, but they will be the real eye-catchers of this "catwalk", with very few other objects to divert attention away. So you can indulge yourself here with the most beautifully designed ones you can get your hands on.
Also think about what effect they will have when they are turned on in the evening and at night - some can create beautiful designs with shadows cast on empty walls.
The corridors are often the "gallery" of the house, a bit like the walls on the stairs. Here you can hang frames for paintings, photos, prints and the like, so as to make even an often bare space interesting.
Wherever you can get enough natural light, use plants for decorating. Or choose faux ones (but only those that are really well done) and place them where you prefer. A real plant could also be the eye-catching element at one end of the corridor (provided there is enough light), or become the object framed by the end of the corridor itself.
