Use radiators to perfume your clothes as they dry

When it is cold and maybe there is not even a dryer to rely on, it is sometimes convenient to speed up drying  clothes by using the heat emitted by radiators, or even stoves.

It is a choice to be made wisely and carefully, without ever covering the radiator too much with clothes - but it comes in handy when it serves as an emergency solution. Maybe we need the clothes quickly and they wouldn't have time to dry on the clothesline naturally. While we dry them faster with the help of the radiator, we can also perfume them in a natural way, using some DIY tips such as those indicated below:

WARNING: Avoid placing too many clothes on the same radiator, so as to prevent the flow of hot air. You will dry your clothes but heating up the room becomes much more difficult. Use this remedy for a few clothes at a time, so as not to increase the humidity of the air too much.

  • It is better to hang each garment on a line, hanger or hook that keeps it suspended just above or a little in front of the radiator - or even place it on a chair and keep the chair close to the radiator or stove.
  • Ensure that, if you put your clothes on the radiator, it is clean and free of dust or rust.

How to deodorize clothes using the radiator:

  • If you have trays or containers to hang directly on the radiators (porcelain dehumidifiers, for example), you can use them with dried citrus peel (you can do it in the oven or in the microwave), and possibly also pour a few drops of orange essential oil into them. Using lemon will make them even more fragrant. Put them in the dehumidifier so that the flow of hot air emanating from the radiator will carry the citrus fragrance to the clothes hanging nearby.
  • Similarly, you can use cotton or small pieces of cloth soaked in a few drops of one or more essential oils and put them on the radiator.
  • In the dehumidifier you can also put dried aromatic herbs, bay leaves, spices of various kinds (cinnamon sticks, star anise seeds, cloves, etc.). And these too can be "boosted" by further smells by adding drops of essential oils that pair well with the base component.

These are simple drying tips that, at the same time, perfume the house in a pleasant and natural way.
