Shaving foam on the stove: do you know this alternative method of cleaning a stove top?

Shaving foam is a truly invaluable ally for doing household chores: it can be used, for example, to create an invisible film that prevents the mirrors in the bathroom from misting up, but it is also useful for cleaning - especially when it comes to metal surfaces, glass, or the shelves around the stove in the kitchen.

The reason it works is that it contains triethanolamine, a derivative of ammonia, and lanolin. However, it is advisable to use a shaving foam that does not contain any gel components - therefore the more "traditional" foam is more suitable, even if it is not of particularly high quality.

Make sure that the oven is very cold, remove the grills and burners if it is the gas one, and with paper towels remove all the clearly visible food debris. Then you can use the foam.

The procedure is really simple:  shake the can just as if you were using it normally, spraying it on the oven in abundant quantities. Spread it with your hands, or with the help of an old brush or a silicone kitchen brush (which you will then have to wash thoroughly) in order to leave a fairly even layer - not too thick - over the entire surface. If there are areas with particularly dirty spots, use more foam on them.

Leave to act for 15-20 minutes, then take a slightly damp sponge and remove all the foam, rubbing the dirt stains that will have softened by now. Continue by rinsing thoroughly with a soft cloth and dry immediately with a third, lint-free cloth.

Shaving foam is a non-aggressive product that you can use on various types of stoves - the important thing is to rinse it off well so that no residues remain which, with heat, could cause unpleasant fumes.

If you are not sure about this method, you can always resort to using a bicarbonate and water paste. Spread on the surface and let it act for 10 minutes, before removing it just like with the shaving foam described above.

Have you ever cleaned the kitchen with shaving foam?
