Let's face it: sooner or later everyone has to deal with humidity in the house. Whether it is due to short exposure to the sun during the day, or because there is no large terrace on which to hang clothes, many people are forced to fight against an excess of "homely" humidity.

If you don't plan on spending money on a traditional dehumidifier, this DIY trick could come in very handy. The remedy we are talking about is known as the strainer method and it takes 3 simple elements to put it into practice.

All you need is a colander (strainer) of any size, as long as it is tightly meshed, a container of the same size as the diameter of the colander to be placed underneath and, optionally, coarse salt or rice. These last two elements are well known for their ability to absorb water and humidity.

Have you ever noticed that often, in condiment containers that contain the salt, you can see grains of rice? It is a very common practice precisely because, by absorbing the humidity of the salt, the rice prevents the clumping of the salt making it difficult or impossible to use.

Having said that, let's go back to our colander method. After taking the salt or rice, fill the colander to the brim and then place it on the container, which will have the function of collecting the humidity present in the rooms of the house. All that remains is to find the most humid spot in the kitchen, living room, bedroom or bathroom and let our DIY dehumidifier do the work.

We recommend that you regularly check the amount of liquid that has accumulated in the container so that it can be emptied and repositioned for optimal effect.

In any case, the house should always be ventilated. Also keep the drying rack and laundry outside as much as possible. These are two measures that undoubtedly prevent the formation of humidity in the home and that of annoying condensation on the windows and on the floor of the various rooms.

Did you already know about the strainer method? It's a quick and easy remedy that will be of great help around your home!
