Space behind the sofa is empty? Be inspired by these many ideas to use it tastefully

When a sofa is put in a living room, it is usually placed against a wall or in the middle of an open space, thereby defining the relaxation area. This means that sooner or later, one must also find an idea to decorate the wall immediately above the sofa or the space in contact with the backrest - which is never very nice to see exposed.

Frames, mirrors, shelves, consoles, dining counters, bookcases: look at how many ways you could find a solution.

The first solution, classic and always effective: a large painting that draws attention to itself.

Then, of course, there are the clusters of frames that you could fill with photos, paintings, prints, or even hand-made items of all kinds. And you can have fun finding the best layout by experimenting with their arrangement.

But if you prefer something simpler and with a delicate, rustic flavor, you could go for windows converted into wall decorations. These will always be the perfect backdrop for seasonal wreaths.

To support objects, frames, mirrors and more, you can use shelves of almost any style that suits the furniture. The important thing is that they are shallow or positioned high enough not to risk you hitting your head on them when you sit down.

If the sofa is not directly up against the wall, there is also space for a small and narrow coffee table, perhaps highlighted by a mirror on the wall.

In general, however, using consoles as long as the back of the sofa are recommended.

Mirrors are reminiscent of windows: they intensify the brightness of the room and are always very elegant.

What if the sofa is in a corner? You can decorate above it on both walls with a mix of options - perhaps a ladder becomes a photo holder on one wall and old windows or shutters are used on the other.

On the other hand, when the sofa is not against the wall at all, the backrest is clearly visible, and it becomes even more necessary to decorate the back, and generally this is done with a console in any style that suits the home and the furniture.

If we are talking about tall and narrow tables, they will not only be the location to place vases, lamps and books, but they could serve as a table, like a counter to eat at while watching TV.

And there is no shortage of DIY ideas to build these items for yourself.

Some prefer to deploy a bench with cushions that resembles a narrow chaise longue, to increase the relaxation area in the living room.

If there is space, you might consider using a slightly bigger table as a desk if necessary.

And why not line all sides of the sofa with a low bookcase? Increase those spaces to store more objects in an intelligent way!

Which idea do you like best?
